Comments about Standard Horizon HX850s Handheld VHF w/ GPS:
The integration of VHF, GPS and DSC is great:
-You can call and be called without using hailing channel
-Pushing the distress button set off the alarm on all modern VHFs -including the CG- and reports your GPS position. You are sure to get their attention!
-GPS has limited navigation features: no routes, waypoints or goto - just position, speed, heading

Comments about Standard Horizon HX850s Handheld VHF w/ GPS:
I think its size, and plastic case, have more to do with making it float than anything else. You do have to read the manual and memorize the second functions of all the buttons, but then using it is more intuitive than the manual's description of the procedures might suggest.

Comments about Standard Horizon HX850s Handheld VHF w/ GPS:
it is sturdy, the volume is good and clear and easy to use. the gps is accurate. it takes a few minutes to activate but not a problem. i have a small boat so i bought it mostly for safety reasons. the floating feature seems important. it is good for weather reports and entertaining to listen to other boaters
