Right out of the box (after a full charge) I read the directions and turned it on. No "self test", no beeps. I tested it against my mounted radio in my boat and it seems to be transmitting, but there is no sound. The receive "rx" is indicating that it is getting a signal back, the volume is up, but nothing is happening. Tried it on several different volume levels with the same result. I sure hope this doesn't foretell the dependability of the unit. I tried to call Midland but got no answer. Will be returning this radio.

You get so much in one package! Definetelly worth the extra few bucks over the NT1 model. However, not sure how effective the "waterproof" feature is as the battery compartmet lacks rubber insulation...

fired up right out of the box. called the lockmaster at least 2 miles away. loud and clear. chargers for the house and the boat. can't go wrong.

Powerful radio with long battery life. Perfect on smaller boats and if you do not move hundreds of miles away from the shore.

Easy to use, very good performance for that price. Altough I had to return the first purchase, because of a defect in the transmitter module, it is a very robust and reliable Marine Radio. All you need for a small boat.

Amazing bargain. After paying such a low price, I expected a low end unit. Not only is this a quality radio, it comes with tons of accessories including belt clip, AC and DC chargers, hands free kit, etc. Great radio which is compact to carry and simple to use. Love it!

If this is still on sale for [$]you really should buy it! I was familiar with Midland radios as a CB'er and thought that [$]was a good price for a handheld. I was wrong for it's a GREAT PRICE FOR THIS RADIO! Great reception and signal strength and comes with all the bells and whistles you could want. What's nice too is you can power it via the rechargable battery or with six AA's. Seriously folks...it's a great deal and hopefully this will help you make up your mind!
